Mid Century Dolls

By the 1940s, doll manufacturers were using plastics to create dolls. Plastic proved more durable than composition or china. The first dolls were mostly made out of hard plastics, but as the doll makers experiment, the plastics changed. Eventually vinyls and softer plastics found their way into doll bodies.

The dolls in this gallery are from the 1940s-1960s and all made from some form of plastic. Some of the most beloved doll brands, like Toni or Ginny, were born around this period of time.

The dolls in this section are only some of the mid century dolls that have come through the studio. Due to poor storage and plastic deterioration, many of these dolls come to us in bad shape. Unfortunately, even plastic doesn’t last forever. But these treasured keep sakes and loved dolls are worth saving.
